South
Africa is situated at the Southern Tip of Africa. There is nothing between
us and Antartica except water. It lies at the end of a carpet of African
cultures which stretch all the way from Cairo to Cape
Town. It is however slightly closer to Europe than it is to Florida
or Sydney. By European standards it is a large country but it would fit
into America five or six times. The population density is low and there
are probably less than ten major cities, but all of these are connected
by First World road, rail and air links. Direct non-stop
flights are available from America and Europe to take you to an exotic
destination where the lingua franca is nevertheless largely English.
The majority of our population is Developing rather
than Developed World, and there are eleven official languages only two
of which are European. But the infrastructure is First World as are hotels,
medical services and communucation systems which include such things as
video conferencing and country wide fax, cell phone and computer connections
to international networks. Several thousand business's have web pages.
This is Africa and the food chain here is quite different, but you will
not find lions in the streets or hippos in the hotels. To see these things
you have to visit one of our many splendid Game Parks. This is particularly
true of Cape Town, a Mediterranean City set on the Southermost Tip of
Africa, where you will find a blend of African and European cultures.
